Starting therapy is a meaningful step—and understanding the cost can feel overwhelming. We’re committed to making this part simple, transparent, and easy to navigate so you can focus on what matters most: your therapy.

Transparent and Supportive

We believe that clarity builds trust. Our admin team is available and responsive. Led by more than 25 years of experience navigating insurance and medical and behavioral health billing, our admin team is knowledgeable, available, and responsive. We work to make it clear and easy for you.

Using Insurance

We are in-network with several major insurance plans:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • United Healthcare
  • Curative (Cash Card approved provider)

We’ll verify your benefits before your first appointment and walk you through what your insurance plan communicated with us about your benefits —your copay, coinsurance, and any deductible that may apply.

We also file claims on your behalf, so you don’t have to manage the process alone.

Private Pay Options

For those choosing not to use insurance—or whose plans we are not in-network with—we offer private pay options:

Clinician Type Per Session Fees for Individuals Per Session Fees for Couples Sessions
Associate Clinicians* $135–$150 $150
Licensed Clinicians $150 $165
Clinical Directors $175 $200

*Associate Clinicians with advanced training, experience, and more established caseloads have a fee of $150.

Sliding Scale Options Available. If you are paying out of pocket and a lower fee is needed, our clinicians all carry some sliding scale spots as part of our commitment to making therapy accessible. Some of our Associates offer sliding scale sessions as low as $90. Please reach out to us and let us know if this is something that would help you and we will work to find you an option.

We’re always happy to help you find an option that feels like a good fit—both clinically and financially.

What Will You Pay?

Before your first session, we’ll help you understand what applies to you

Depending on your insurance plan, your cost per session may include:

  • A copay (a set fee per visit)
  • Coinsurance (a percentage of the session fee)
  • Or the full session fee until your deductible is met

Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time is set aside just for you. We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Late cancellations or missed sessions may be charged the full session fee, as insurance does not cover these costs.

If something unexpected comes up, we encourage you to reach out directly to your clinician.

Questions? We’re Here.

If you have questions about your insurance, fees, what to expect, or how to get started our team is here to help. We’re happy to walk you through your options and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Austin Counseling House - Therapy in Austin, TX

In-person and Online

For those that can, in-person counseling tends to have better outcomes and we love it when our clients are able to come see us in-person for sessions. Many of our clients do a hybrid of some in-person appointments and some virtual and find this to be convenient and effective. For those who can’t easily get to our office space, or just prefer the ease of Telehealth, we do offer online sessions for clients located in Texas.
